Porsche 918 Spyder concept

2010 Porsche 918 Spyder concept

When I first saw this concept photo I thought it was some sort of Ferrari but then after studying it awhile I noticed the Porsche badging. I must admit this 918 Spyder Concept is growing on me. It is a high-performance mid-engined concept sports car with ultra-efficient, low-emission drive technology. Will that be considered a real Porshe in some peoples eyes? No.

The 918 Spyder prototype combines high-tech racing features and electro-mobility to offer a fascinating range of qualities: An emission level of just 70 grams CO2 per kilometre on fuel consumption of three litres/100 kilometres (equal to 94 mpg imp) truly outstanding even for an ultra-compact city car, on the one hand, combined with the performance of a super sports car and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h in just under 3.2 seconds, top speed of 320 km/h (198 mph) plus, and a lap time on the Nordschleife of Nurburgring in less than 7:30 minutes, faster than even the Porsche Carrera GT, on the other.

More details to come!

Porsche’s New Advertisement

Porsche has been really slamming on its advertising for the new 4 door sedan that we are all drooling over. The recently released Family Tree of Porsche Advertisement was the one to take the cake.

To pull this video off, Porsche had decided to bring out 50 different models from the history of the Porsche name. They also brought out 22 professional drivers, 160 crew members, and a complete camera crew with vehicles including the Cayenne and Natch. A pair of crazy helicopter pilots to provide amazing Ariel shots. All of this was constructed by Jeff Zwarts magical mind that is also the mind behind Hyundai’s Genesis Coupe Super Bowl Spots. Here is a look behind the making of the advertisement.

FONTANA, CA (Jan. 19, 2010) – Porsche Works Driver Wolf Henzler and returning Team Falken Driver Bryan Sellers will lead the tire company’s expanded race program, driving a brand new 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the full nine-event American Le Mans Series GT2 class.

This will be the third year for Team Falken, and its most aggressive to date.  “We’re using the ALMS to compete against our competitors as well as utilize the highly organized race program as a formal testing ground for continued tire development,” said Mark Richter, Falken Senior Manager of Dealer Marketing.  “As we compete throughout the season, we will build upon race and test data learned from our efforts with last year’s Porsche.”

“We are delighted to welcome Wolf Henzler to our team, as well as have Bryan Sellers return, along with Rod Everett, our veteran team manager, who will oversee the development of our brand new Porsche 911 GT3 RSR, the only Porsche 911 GT3 RSR  race car delivered to North America this season,” said Falken’s Director of Marketing Andrew Hoit.  “We remain convinced that ALMS is the perfect venue to profile Falken’s brand and demonstrate the company’s capabilities to our customers, retailers and media, and that’s why we have made the significant commitment to motorsports.”

The new GT3 RSR was hand-built in Porsche’s Weissach, Germany, Motorsports facility, and then air- freighted on a 747 cargo plane to LAX, close to Falken’s Corporate offices in Fontana.  The car is the latest generation water-cooled 4.0-Liter Porsche Flat six boxer engine.

Henzler, a veteran of many ALMS races, and one of only 8 Porsche factory drivers, along with Sellers, who drove Falken’s entry in 2009, will begin testing as soon as the car is finished its final conversions according to the ALMS rulebook.

“We showed steady improvement throughout last year, and anticipate even stronger results in 2010,” Richter added.  “The competition will be tough, but Falken is ready for the challenge.”

Falken Tire Corporation, based in Fontana, California, was introduced to the North American market in 1985.  Falken focus on UHP (Ultra High Performance) products and utilizes pro drifting and American LeMans race programs to further develop, improve and market passenger vehicle products for worldwide distribution.  For more information, visit Falken Tire’s new website at www.falkentire.com.

Lumma Release’s It’s Porsche Panamera CLR 700GT

CLR 700GT
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The Porsche Panamera, today’s soon to be newest luxury tuner car. Following earlier modifications released by Gemballa and 9ff, German tuning king Lumma Design has released its redesign of the Panamera. In my opinion the rear end looks like a Mazda RX-8. This could put a new twist on the name “Tuner Car

Lumma has named the project CLR 700GT, the Panamera packs a wide body kit with a new front end, widened wheel arches housing 22-inch rims with a upgraded brake system behind them. The CLR 700GTis dropped on a suspension setup 1.38 inches. Around back there’s a carbon fiber rear wing that’s too big for its own good and a redesigned rear bumper with a rear air diffuser and quad tailpipes. Underneath the vented carbon fiber hood Lumma is said to have cranked out an outstanding 700BHP. Check out Lumma’s website for more information on the CLR 700GT

Press Release:

TECHART is celebrating the world premiere of its individualization program for the Porsche Panamera models at the IAA 2009. The first phase of the TECHART program includes, among other things, exterior components for improved aerodynamics and a striking appearance that is typical of TECHART, 21 and 22 inch light metal wheels, a multifunctional daylight running light system, as well as extensive options finishing the interior.

“Personality knows no compromise – this is our understanding of high-quality automobile finishing. We implement this one-to-one with the Panamera and in the process combine well-trained aesthetics with discrete elegance,” emphasizes Thomas Behringer, CEO of TECHART Automobil GmbH. The program for the Porsche Panamera Turbo will be shown at the IAA 2009.

The completely newly developed Aerokit I was manufactured from PUR-RIM and it optimizes the driving characteristics specifically at high speeds. The three-part Front Spoiler I has integrated brake air ducting and reduces the lift on the front axle with better cooling of the brakes at the same time. The side skirts steady the airflow under the vehicle and form dynamic contours in the side view. The new Rear Spoiler I and a rear diffusor support driving stability, and together with the dual oval tailpipes made of stainless steel with the TECHART engraving, they emphasize the consistent design at the rear.

Transmission of power to the road is the job of a choice of elegant 21-inch TECHART Formula or sporty 22-inch TECHART Formula II light-metal wheels. For the necessary road holding, TECHART recommends Conti Sport Contact 3 tires or Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires.

TECHART has a multifunctional daytime running lights system ready for the Panamera Turbo. The LED system unit combines daytime running lights, blinkers, sidelights, and parking lights in one housing – in a choice of chrome or black – that slips seamlessly into the front design of the Panamera. The system has automatic dimming of the daytime running lights when blinking as well as when the low-beam is switched on.

Interior manufacturing is one of the key competences of the Leonberg Porsche tuning specialist. For the market launch of the program for the Panamera, TECHART is presenting exclusive two-colour leather finishing in teak and black. Decorative stitching with matching thread, a roof liner in the same coloured Alcantara, details such as interior colour-matched handles and foot mats with leather edging in the colour teak give rise to extensive personalization. A TECHART sport steering wheel as well as dials with the interior colour complete the sporty and elegant line. A new TECHART exotic wood variation is being used for the first time in the Panamera. The prized ash veneer with a tactile grain decorates the doors, the dashboard and center console.
