Tuner Maneuver:How did Tru Motorsports Get Started?
Tru Motorsports:Being a performance enthusiast myself, I started as a broke college student with a 94 civic mini me swap (1999) and a greddy single Turbo spending all of my tuition financial aid towards parts. Wheels one semester, turbo kit another, etc. Eventually I noticed a growing market for computer chips for OBD0 and OBD1 Ecu’s (raising rev limiter and optimizing fuel maps for better performance) so were among the first to sell these on eBay, after a while me started to sell a variety of different brand and products. We had people coming to my garage to buy parts with no official store front. I then graduated from Purdue in Small Business Mgmt and decided to open a storefront since I already had a customer base. People were already rocking our TRU decals before we even had a store! Since then we have strived to bring the lowest prices and best customer service to every one of our customers. I also noticed that many shops I visited had this I am better than you attitude, and did not offer much help or customer service, that was another reason I decided to start TRU, so everyone would have a place they could come to and ask any question or learn about their car’s.

Tuner Maneuver:What about the name, How was that decided upon?
Tru Motorsports:I was raised in New Orleans, The word “TRU” is commonly used all the time, so it was easy and catchy. Props to Master P “TRU to da Game!”

Tuner Maneuver:What type of services/parts do you offer?
Tru Motorsports:Import, domestic, trucks, and diesels Performance and many hard to get JDM Parts!

Tuner Maneuver:What scene/audience do you cater to? Import? VIP?
Tru Motorsports:All of the above! I myself have owned various types of classes of vehicles, if you are tru tuner it does not matter what you drive. It’s in your DNA to modify and improve vehicle performance and Style. Our target market ranges from 16-45 years of age. We are very actively involved with local and regional/national shows and events.

Tuner Maneuver: What are some of your current projects?
Tru Motorsports:We have a carbon fiber 350z we are currently replacing Turbonetics unit with a slightly bigger one, methanol injection, and IC NOS sprayer.
We also have a 94 Mazda FD single turbo that will get an engine overhaul very soon, either LS-1 power, or Banzai Racing 20b motor!
We also have an EK we are doing a RSX front end conversion, K20 swap, and K20 dash/interior swap
Ivan Martinez (employee) is also upping the boost and doing Methanol Injection on his 02 SpecV
We are always working on our Carbon fiber show cars as well (S2000, RX-8, RX-7, and 350Z)

Tuner Maneuver: Any new plans for this yr?
Tru Motorsports:More events, and gatherings, keep Doing what we do! And dropping prices so people can still afford to modify their rides in these harsh times!
