Superstar DC2
Honda and Acura tuning is nothing new. It’s been around for well over a decade now, and B-series are almost slowly becoming a thing of the past. With all the hype surrounding the K-series & J-series swaps, It is a nice surprise to still see a B-series equipped Honda / Acura that will stop us in our tracks and make us take break neck looks. This 1998 Acura Integra GS-R may be over eleven years old, but shows absolutely no signs of wear and tear. Representing the sunshine state of our country (Florida). We tried to find a flaw in this Acura but it seems there is none.
First things first, when this GS-R left the lot back in 1998, its 170hp from the factory was fairly good enough on the streets. Now that 370Zs, EVOs and the new STi’s are commonplace, this GS-R owner knew its 170hp just couldn’t cut it anymore. Wanting to induce force induction, the B18C received a complete overhaul from top to bottom and now boasts an amazing 452hp and 323Trq at only 19psi.
Starting with the bottom end, it received a medical dose in the form of Eagle Rods and Wiseco Pistons to make sure it could take a beating from all the forced induction of the turbo. Honda blocks are quite strong especially the B18C so it didn’t need much else tended to.
Bolt on’s to the power plant include a Aem Fuel Rail, Precision 650cc Injectors, a Victor X Manifold, Peakboost Turbo Manifold, Tail Waste Gate and BOV, a Garret 60-1 Turbo to feed the drag while decomposing of the gases through a 3 In Stainless downpipe. A Precision 650 FMIC was added to make the beast breath along with a Full 3in Exhaust with a magnaflow resonator. The transmission had to receive some love also in the form of an ACT unsprung 4 puck clutch with a Stock Fly Wheel!
On the exterior, this Integra has been kept super clean and tame. The all metal JDM Integra Type-R front end transforms the vehicle to an exquisite design. The OEM optional kit was bolted on along with a set of HID Black Housed Headlights, JDM ITR SKIRTS, and an ITR WING to dress the rear end up. To make things a little cleaner to the eye the Side Moldings, Antenna and Rear Trunk key hole were all shaved.
The car is now a handling machine thanks to a fine collection of suspension modifications. At the center of it all is a set of Bilstien Coilovers with Omni Springs. ITR Front & Rear Strut bar along with a c-pillar bar to tighten things up against body roll. Setting this car off is a set of Authentic Volk TE37 wheels in white, wrapped with Nitto Neo Gens.
On the inside, the Integra’s clean theme continues. A pair of Black Recaro seats can be seen. A Sparco steering wheel replaces the factory piece along with a NRG quick release. While an ITR shift knob is in grasp for the fortunate driver. Several pieces from the Integra’s JDM counterpart made its way into the interior as well, including the cluster, clock block, fog light switch, air bag tray, door panels, rear seat and shift boot reinforces the JDM goodness throughout the cabin. Lying on the passenger side we spotted an AEM wideband along with an Autometer boost gauge that S&R performance by ALPHA used to tune the car to its 452whp claim.
This Integra is a true fresh of breathe air, and as it prowls the Sunshine State. We can only smile at how alive Honda / Acura tuning still is. The B-series is still an extremely appealing power plant and we are just glad that not everyone has converted.
