Mazdatrix announces two car Redline Time Attack Franchise Team

Mazdatrix FC RX-7
Mazdatrix RX-8

Throughout the 2010 Redline Time Attack season, spectators will be treated to the unique sound of Mazda rotary engines screaming at over 9000 rpm. Mazdatrix, one of the country’s leading retailers and service centers for Mazda rotary cars, is announcing that it will enter two cars in the Redline Time Attack West Coast events for the 2010 season.

Mazdatrix Racing will enter a Supercharged and Intercooled Mazda RX-8 in the Street Tire Class, which will be driven by Mazdatrix owner Dave Lemon. Dave will drive this car until the completion of a Turbocharged, 3-rotor, Mazda RX-8 that Mazdatrix is currently building for the Super Modified RWD class. The second car will be a Turbo Mazda RX-7 FC3S, which will be driven by Formula Drift driver Kyle Mohan in the Drift class.
In a driving career that began in 1971, Dave has competed in SCCA Club and Pro Racing, IMSA, Trans-Am, Grand-Am, NASA, NHRA Sport Compact, and endurance racing almost exclusively in Mazda rotary cars. He has amassed over 40 wins and holds track records at Buttonwillow Raceway Park, Willow Springs, and Auto Club Speedway. Dave drove his SCCA E Production Mazda RX-7 at last year’s Redline Time Attack finale at Auto Club Speedway.
Kyle also competed at that weekend, finishing second in the Drift class in his former Formula Drift Pro Championship RX-7. He is best-known for his exploits behind the wheel of Mazdas in Formula Drift, where he and his Mazda RX-8 are regular competitors in top-16 competition.
Both the Mazda RX-8 and RX-7 are built, maintained, and assembled with parts available from Mazdatrix. Mazdatrix engines power winning Mazdas in SCCA, NASA, Formula Drift, and in 2010, the Redline Time Attack as both the RX-8 and RX-7 have Mazdatrix-built engines under the hood.
“The entire Mazdatrix staff is very excited about our involvement in Redline Time Attack this season,” said Dave. “With all of the series improvements over the off-season, now is the right time for us to become a Redline Time Attack Franchise Team and we are really looking forward to demonstrating the potential of the RX-8 and RX-7 in Time Attack, as well as the potential of the parts and service available from Mazdatrix. We are also very excited to continue building our Super Modified RWD class RX-8 and unveiling it later in the season.”

TEAM FALKEN TIRE PREPARES FOR DEBUT ASSAULT WITH NEW PORSCHE AND TEAM DRIVER FOR SEBRING IN GT2 CLASS

Falken Porsche

FONTANA, CA (Mar. 3, 2010) – Porsche Works Driver’s Wolf Henzler, Patrick Pilet and returning driver Bryan Sellers will lead the Team Falken Tire’s expanded race program, debuting the tire company’s brand new 2010 Porsche 911 GT3 RSR in the American Le Mans Series GT2 class at Sebring.

This will be the third year for Team Falken in ALMS, and its most aggressive program to date.  “We’re using the ALMS to compete against our competitors as well as utilize the highly organized race program as a formal testing ground for continued tire development,” said Mark Richter, Falken Senior Manager of Dealer Marketing.  “As we compete throughout the season, we will build upon race and test data learned from our efforts with last year’s Porsche.”

“As we plan for Sebring, it’s great to have Wolf on our team, as well as have Bryan return, along with Rod Everett, our veteran team manager, who has overseen the development of Falken’s new race car, the only Porsche 911 GT3 RSR earmarked for racing delivered to North America this season,” said Falken’s Director of Marketing Andrew Hoit.  “We remain convinced that ALMS is the perfect venue to profile Falken’s brand and demonstrate the company’s capabilities to our customers, retailers and media, and that’s why we have made the significant commitment to motorsports.”

The new GT3 RSR was hand-built in Porsche’s Weissach, Germany, Motorsports facility, and then air- freighted on a 747 cargo plane to LAX, close to Falken’s Corporate offices in Fontana.  The car is the latest generation water-cooled 4.0-Liter Porsche Flat six boxer engine.

Henzler, a veteran of many ALMS races, and one of only eight Porsche factory drivers, along with Sellers, who drove Falken’s entry in 2009, have tested the new car prior to its debut next week at Sebring.

“We showed steady improvement throughout last year, and anticipate even stronger results in 2010,” Richter added.  “I’m confident Falken, our drivers and our car are ready for the challenge.”

Steve Angerman joins Gardella Racing as Development driver!

Steve Angerman @ Summit Point

Howell, NJ (March 5, 2010) – Gardella Racing has signed Steve Angerman as developmental driver in 2010.

Angerman, a grassroots racer from Egg Harbor Township, NJ, will have several responsibilities within the Gardella Racing stable. Initially, he will have the position of spotter for Formula Drift driver Ryan Tuerck at all Formula Drift competitions. This will enable him to develop as a first-class driver as he learns the ropes of high-stress drifting competition.

“We want Steve to learn from one of the best before we put him out on his own,” said Gary Gardella, team owner of Gardella Racing. “Our goal is to hone his skills so he is ready to make an entrance into Formula Drift. There are many guys that have made the transition over to Formula D and they are not ready for the intense competition. We want to make sure Steve can compete successfully in the XDC series and learn to communicate with his team before 2011.”

Also, Angerman will drive his own car in East Coast grass root events such as Club Loose, Drift Nirvana and a few more with the help of Gardella Racing. In addition, he will compete at some Pro-Am events in the seat of the Gardella Racing Solstice that is powered by an LS7. When not running in either of those circuits, Angerman will compete in a few local NASA events, SCCA events, endurance road races co-driving with Tuerck and possibly some karting events.

“I look forward to Steve joining our team,” stated Gardella. “We plan to keep him busy as we groom him for his debut as a professional driver. I believe practice is necessary for future success. The kid has so much raw talent it’s amazing; I cannot wait to see him behind the wheel of the Solstice to see what kind of damage he is going to cause with the big V8 power.”

GR is seeking product partners for this grass roots venture. Please feel free to contact the team if you would like to see your company’s products promoted by a trusted North East team. There are many different series’ and events from VA to NH, supporting the GR team will assist in promoting your product. Many companies have a difficult time with sales in the North East; the goal of GR is to help change this. At this point, the team is not committed to any products and is actively seeking the options out there for our program.

Formula DRIFT Announces Tony Angelo as Technical Manager

tonyangelo Formula DRIFT Announces Tony Angelo as Technical Manager

Formula DRIFT has announced that Tony Angelo will add to his current role and responsibility as a Formula DRIFT judge by also serving as new Technical Manager. The position focuses primarily on competition vehicle compliance and enforcement of Formula DRIFT technical regulations as stated in the Formula DRIFT rulebook.

“Creating a Series that has staff that understands drift cars, how they are built and perform is paramount to our growth and success, so having Tony Angelo on as the Technical Manager is a great step for us,” said Ryan Sage, executive vice-president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “Tony has essentially committed to making this a full-time endeavor and he is ready to tackle issues and items that come up at a moment’s notice. Having personally worked with Tony at other capacities has opened my eyes to his ability to be non-bias and objective, which is absolutely necessary for us.”

The Technical Manager position entails many responsibilities with a focus on compliance and eligibility of vehicles according to the rulebook and specific items including recording and maintaining a detailed technical record of each vehicle, assigning Formula DRIFT VID numbers, consulting with Formula DRIFT administrative officials and the Formula DRIFT Chief Steward on rulebook development and modification, and administering mid-season technical inspections. Angelo has also been instrumental in helping to bring new developments to the current rulebook.

“Tony Angelo has been involved with safety and technical inspections of drift cars on many performance levels since 2003,” said Jim Liaw president and co-founder of Formula DRIFT. “His experience as a driver, builder, and judge makes him qualified to take over this new role. His technical knowledge of the current competition chassis and drifting rules since 2003 as well as his ability to be articulate will help level the playing field across all drive train platforms.”

Additionally, the Technical Manager will be responsible for working with teams to resolve any questions/issues regarding different builds, technical inspections, and writing any technical bulletins. Tony will still serve as one of the three main judges for the 2010 Formula DRIFT Championship season.
